It's no secret that Stevie played his amps cranked and preferred a little cleaner sound from the front end allowing you to hear more power tube breakup. Well, this works really well with the AC VOX AC15C1 and C2 amps too! This kit uses a JJ 5751 for V1 which is in-between an ECC81 and an ECC83S in gain. We follow that up with a standard ECC83S for V2, a balanced ECC83S for the phase inverter in V3 and a matched pair of the JJ EL84's for the power section.

Just let us know in the comments section if you're looking for max headroom, moderate or an early breakup so we can select a proper grade for the power tubes.

The Balanced ECC83S is located in V3 closest to the power tubes and the 5751 is located in V1.

Combo amps are very hard on tubes because of vibrations which can cause tube rattle with any brand of tube. If your amp is the combo version and you play by yourself in a quiet environment or record with your amp you may want to consider using the EuroDamper tube damper rings for the two EL84’s. These are available in the "Related Products” tab as a set of two and will greatly decrease tube rattle. ** Note; the wire tube retainers will not fit all the way over the damper rings.

These amps are cathode biased, there is no bias adjustment to be made. The amount of clean headroom you’ll get from the power section is somewhat dictated by the grade of power tube used. A cooler grade of EL84’s will give you more clean headroom, whereas a warmer grade will give you earlier breakup. If you order online, leave us a note in the comments section letting us know your headroom preference (max headroom, middle of the road or early breakup).
