Want as much gain as you can get? This kit for the Lone Star Special uses a matched quad of the JJ EL84's for power along with a JJ 5Y3S Rectifier tube. For the front end two handpicked High Gain ECC83S for V1 and V2, two standard ECC83S's for V3 and V4 and a balanced ECC83S for the phase inverter. Lots of gain!

Just let us know in the comments section if you're looking for an early breakup, a moderate breakup or a later breakup for more headroom in which case we will choose the coolest grades we have available for the power tubes.

The Balanced ECC83S is the preamp tube in the back row farthest from the input jack. The two High Gain ECC83S's are located in V1 and V2.

Combo amps are very hard on tubes because of vibrations which can cause tube rattle with any brand of tube. If your amp is the combo version and you play by yourself in a quiet environment or record with your amp you may want to consider using the EuroDamper tube damper rings for the four EL84’s and the 5Y3S. These are available in the "Related Products” tab as a set of four for the EL84's and a single larger EuroDamper for the 5Y3S. These will greatly decrease tube rattle.

These amps are fixed biased, there is no bias adjustment to be made. The amount of clean headroom you’ll get from the power section is somewhat dictated by the grade of power tube used. A cooler grade of EL84’s will give you more clean headroom, whereas a warmer grade will give you earlier breakup. If you order online, leave us a note in the comments section letting us know your headroom preference (max headroom, middle of the road or early breakup).
