Want all the gain you can get from your Express 5-25? The High Gain kit contains a matched pair of JJ EL84's for the power section. For the front end we use three handpicked High Gain ECC83S's for V1, V2 and V3, a standard ECC83S in V5 and a balanced ECC83S for the phase inverter in V4. Lots of gain!

Just let us know in the comments section if you're looking for an early breakup, a moderate breakup or a later breakup for more headroom in which case we will choose the coolest grades we have available for the power tubes.

The Balanced ECC83S is located in V4 which is the fourth preamp tube from the input jack. The three High gain ECC83S's are located in V1 thru V3.

Combo amps are very hard on tubes because of vibrations which can cause tube rattle with any brand of tube. If your amp is the combo version and you play by yourself in a quiet environment or record with your amp you may want to consider using the EuroDamper tube damper rings for the two EL84’s. These are available in the "Related Products” tab as a set of two and will greatly decrease tube rattle.

This kit is suitable for both the original Express 5-25 and the Express 5-25 Plus.

These amps are fixed biased, there is no bias adjustment to be made. The amount of clean headroom you’ll get from the power section is somewhat dictated by the grade of power tube used. A cooler grade of EL84’s will give you more clean headroom, whereas a warmer grade will give you earlier breakup. If you order online, leave us a note in the comments section letting us know your headroom preference (max headroom, middle of the road or early breakup).
