Stevie liked to play his amps cranked and preferred a little cleaner sound from the front end allowing you to hear more power tube breakup. This kit uses a JJ 5751 for V1 which is in-between an ECC81 and an ECC83S in gain, a balanced ECC83S for V2 and a matched pair of the low output JJ EL844's for the power section.

The Balanced ECC83S is located closest to the power tubes.

These amps are fixed biased, there is no bias adjustment to be made. The amount of clean headroom you’ll get from the power section is somewhat dictated by the grade of power tube used. A cooler grade of EL84’s will give you more clean headroom, whereas a warmer grade will give you earlier breakup. In this kit we default to a warmer grade to get power tube distortion a little earlier a la Stevie.

The EuroDamper rings will dramatically reduce or eliminate tube rattle in combo amps. We use these small damper rings on EL84’s and long plate preamp tubes. We rarely find it necessary to use these on the short plate ECC83S's.
