This kit contains a matched pair of JJ EL84's along with an ECC81 for V1, a standard ECC83S for V2, and a balanced ECC83S for the phase inverter in V3. This gives the amp more headroom from the front end which allows you to hear more distortion from the power tubes at higher volumes.

Just let us know in the comments section if you're looking for an early breakup, a moderate breakup or a later breakup from the power tubes. If you opt for more headroom we will choose the coolest grades we have available for the power tubes.

The Balanced ECC83S is located in V3 closest to the power tubes and the ECC81 is located in V1 farthest from the power tubes.

These amps are fixed biased, there is no bias adjustment to be made. The amount of clean headroom you’ll get from the power section is somewhat dictated by the grade of power tube used. A cooler grade of EL84’s will give you more clean headroom, whereas a warmer grade will give you earlier breakup. If you order online, leave us a note in the comments section letting us know your headroom preference (max headroom, middle of the road or early breakup).
