This is our Gold Pin Retube kit for the Dr. Z Z-PLUS Combo Amp. It includes a matched pair of the JJ 6V6S for power, one Gold Pin ECC81 to replace the 12AT7/6201, four Gold Pin ECC83S's, and one GZ34 rectifier. The gold pin preamp tubes provide a smooth and creamy overdrive that lacks the "hair" or grit on the tone that you would ordinarily get from the standard tubes.

The Glod Pin ECC81 replaces the 12AT7.

Combo amps are very hard on tubes because of vibrations which can cause tube rattle with any brand of tube. If your amp is the combo version and you play by yourself in a quiet environment or record with your amp you may want to consider using the EuroDamper tube damper rings for the power tubes and the rectifier tube. These are available in the "Related Products” tab as large dampers and will help decrease tube rattle.

These amps are cathode biased, there is no bias adjustment to be made. Typically in a cathodoe biased amp, the amount of clean headroom you’ll get from the power section is somewhat dictated by the grade of power tube used. A cooler grade of power tubes will give you more clean headroom, whereas a warmer grade will give you earlier breakup. However, in these amps the power tubes are set to run very hot and already have a good quantity of natural breakup, we usually pick out a cooler grade of power tube when we ship our retube kits.
