The JJ Gold Pin 12AY7 / 6072 with with fully Balanced triodes. If you need pairs or multiples of this tube matched to each other use this option. These tubes have symmetrical performance between triodes and are ideal where total consistency and repeat-ability from tube to tube is desired.

The JJ 12AY7 / 6072 is a high quality low noise tube that can also be used as a low gain 12AX7 substitute. They're roughly 60% lower in gain than a traditional 12AX7. The 12AY7 / 6072 was used in many Fender Tweed era amps and are used in mic pre's and tube mic's.

All Gold Pin tubes feature internal components that have been selected off the assembly line and treated differently during the final construction process.

HIFI users can expect increased bandwidth and a smoother presentation with the Gold Pin tubes.

All our preamp tubes are stringently tested for noise and microphonics using Amplitrex testers driving an external amp. There is no extra charge for low noise and microphonics testing like with other tube vendors. Additionally the tubes undergo a battery of tests for basic performance characteristics and faults such as: Emissions, Transconductance, H-K and Grid leakage, etc... If a tube does not pass our strict performance criteria it's tossed or sent back to JJ Electronic for evaluation.

The Balanced and Matched selection allows you to order multiple balanced tubes that also match each other. This is ideal where total symmetry and consistency is desired. This is most commonly requested for Audio applications where parallel signal paths exist (such as a stereo pre amp or drivers in a stereo power amp).

The Gold Pin JJ 12AY7 - 6072 is based on the same construction as the original JJ 12AY7. The internal components go through additional selection and processing during assembly. After working with the Gold Pin tubes for several years we can confirm they do test more consistently and sound noticeably different than the non-Gold Pin tubes.

The JJ Gold Pin 12AY7 / 6072 is a high quality, low noise tube built to classic 12AY7 / 6072 specs. Although this tube uses the classic short plate design, it was engineered from the inside out as a purpose built 6072 rather than a low test 12AX7.

The 12AY7 / 6072 is about 60% lower in gain than a traditional 12AX7. We recommend these in input stages where players are looking for more headroom and a cleaner overall amp. We also use them in specific stages of higher gain amps to tame and even out overdrive channels that go beyond the gain/distortion requirements of the player.

Keep in mind reducing gain generally has the effect of decreasing high end response. If that's desired checkout the standard 12AY7 variant as the Gold Pin tubes retain more bandwidth than the original non-gold pin tube.
