It's no secret that Stevie played his amps cranked and preferred a little cleaner sound from the front end allowing you to hear more power tube breakup. This kit uses a JJ 5751 for V1 which is in-between an ECC81 and an ECC83S in gain. For V2 we use a current balanced ECC83S for the phase inverter. The default power tubes are a matched pair of the JJ 6L6GC's. With the Customize option you can configure this kit to use the JJ 5881's which will drop the power output slightly (ideal for players wanting decreased headroom/output).

The Balanced ECC83S is located in V2 farthest from the input jack.

These amps are adjustable bias. If you use the HK shunt method all that's necessary is a Multimeter. A more accurate and far easier method is to use one of our octal bias probes with a Multimeter, or our all-in-one octal "Pro One" bias probes (which reads plate voltage and plate current simultaneously). These are available under the "Related Products" tab.

6L6GC's should bias up to between 34 to 40 mA per tube.
The JJ 5881's are a 23 watt tube and should bias up to between 31 to 36 mA per tube.
